RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS CHALLENGE 2016

This year Manu is hosting the RAK Challenge following sterling work in previous years by the lovely Betsy at My Five Men (the greedy thing . . lol).

I am linking to Manu HERE where we can see other people participating.

The idea is to encourage spontaneous kindnesses and to make someone's day.

Well, my Grandson, Peter, made mine today and I do believe it was a genuine act of kindness on his part to his Grandpa. So this week the RAK was his to me.

We were having a bit of fun this morning playing hide and seek . . .

Now you see him . . .

Now you don't . . .

Later he spotted some dust in the bedroom and said, "Grandpa! . . clean, clean, hoover . . . now, get it, do it, me do it!"

I was so 'chuffed' to be motivated to do some cleaning by this little lad and we spent 3 hours thoroughly cleaning upstairs with a Spring Clean. He had a little feather duster and brush and was in his element helping Grandpa while I vacuumed.

At two he is just beginning to string words together to convey his intentions and he said, "I come again and more, more!" . . . lol . . . so we shall certainly amuse ourselves with this activity while I look after him twice a week.

I am so grateful to him because he has inspired me to continue over the coming weekend so I can get the house 'spick and span' again.

To be honest this is the first time I am really looking forward to doing it since my wife, Maria, died almost three years ago, when the stuffing was really knocked out of me.

So thank you Peter . . . you are a star.

We found his Daddy's remote controlled car which unfortunately no longer works but I have said I will buy him one. He proceeded to pretend to make an imaginary telephone call to his daddy to tell him the good news . . .

As for me, this afternoon I donated my 106th pint of blood so, although this was not exactly a random or spontaneous activity, I am pleased to be able to help someone again in this way and will continue to do so 4 times a year.

    1. You are most welcome Manu and I am very pleased to 'meet; you.
I always enjoyed this event in previous years as it is designed to encourage kindnesses to others.
Thank you for taking over the batton and continuing the good work . . . :)

  2. This is so cute. So you had dust bunnies rolling on the upstairs floors like tumble weeds?
(Tumble weeds are in our western deserts. You might have to Google them. ha) Glad Peter inspired you
to do a spring clean. And it sounds like he's not letting you off the hook with one afternoon of cleaning! lol.

I would certainly consider giving blood an RAK. It is totally selfless and does nothing for you in return. 106...hard to believe!

      Dust Bunnies . . lol
      Just looked them up.
Not quite as bad as that but definitely overdue for a thorough clean.
I looked up at Maria's portrait hanging in my bedroom and I sensed a smile developing on her face . . . :)
No . . . Peter won't let me off the hook now I am sure . . . thank goodness.

      I am to continue donating and hope to reach 150 if I can . . . :)

    3. There are various meanings.
Presumably this is the one . . .
"Dusty aggregation of plant matter rolled along the ground by the desert wind."

      . . . . anyway I am about to declare war on dust in the house . . . :) haha

  4. Hi Eddie, Peter is such a good looking fella. Spending time with grandkids is priceless. I find myself always doing acts of kindness. Today, I chased a tiny dog, because it was in the middle of the road and I was so afraid it would get run over. I jumped out of the car to try to catch it. It wouldn't let me get close, but I managed to chase it home. it has tags.

  7. Miss V and Peter certainly have a penchant for cleaning and helping. Aw! Too sweet.
I am so glad little Peter is such an inspiration to you. I think you're right about Maria smiling down and being present through Peter. Such a gift. She was probably thinking "Finally, he is dusting!" Hee hee. Hugs and kisses to Grandpa and the slayer of dust bunnies! xox

    1. Perhaps Miss V and Peter should meet up . . . lol
Yes Maria no doubt is thinking that and I sometimes look at her portrait in my bedroom and feel sometimes she is happy with me and sometimes perhaps less so . . :) xox

    2. I think she is happy with you, regardless. You are a good man, Eddie.

    3. Maybe . . . when I meet her again I will find out . . she is bound to have a go at me about 'the cleaning' . . lol

    4. Ha ha! Well maybe that's why she "sent" little Peter.

    5. haha!
She was very house proud and the house was spick and span all the time which was nice but impossible to replicate. Perhaps she did send Peter . . . . lol
      I expect she is having a smile at this . . . :)

  9. Super to have someone help you with the vacuuming.... so I think your plan should be to make sure he knows how to clean windows, do dishes, wash the floor, do the laundry etc etc, then you can set him to work while you put your feet up! Brilliant!
I got to give around 85 pints of blood but had to stop due to medications. Big disappointment, I wanted to reach 100!

  10. Hi Sham . . . lol
    Not forgetting the ironing . . . :)
Shame about the 100 pint goal . . . it is quite a target but 85 pints is marvellous too . . :)

  13. What a most excellent RAK from your darling grandson. That hair, those eyes....melt my heart, and then on top of that wants to clean house. Oh for the gal he falls in love with in about 25 years. HaHa.

Our youngest grandson is that age and loves hide and seek.... Great job Eddie.

  15. Just happened across your blog...hello! Just to say a big thankyou from the bottom of my heart - my life was saved by the gift of many blood transfusions. I cannot give blood myself but am always deeply grateful to those that do. Rose x

  16. EDDIE! What a treat to see your ever so adorable grandson playing hide and seek with you =) GOODNESS, he has grown so big since the last time I saw a photo and he looks like he is 5 years old, though I'm sure he is a year or two younger...and such lovely blue eyes he has! He is a charmer for sure! And sweet little Rosa looking very much like the flower she was named after, so pink and rosy and happy! You must really be in your element playing with two such adorable grandchildren. I'm sure they will bring you lots and lots of joy for many many years to come and you deserve it Eddie!
BTW, thanks for your 'RAK' in touching base with me - things have been a bit challenging in my neck of the woods, but I'm hoping it will all end in a good note. I'll try to send an email when I can and maybe even write up a blog post in the next few days =) Thanks for reaching out Eddie - it was greatly appreciated and brought a bright spot to my week!
